This App controls the ScottEffx flickerSong, an eight-output, wifi connected, LED String Light controller, to play music light shows and perform a variety of manual and timed LED dimmer functions
This App, or the companion iPhone App, is required to operate one or more flickerSongs, each of which controls 8 independent channels of LED string lights. Select a song which includes light show content, and the light show is automatically played on all connected flickerSongs. This App also has LED dim functions including individual output dim control, as well as an internal timer to turn LEDS on, off, play or loop a lightshow at pre-programmed times. The light shows derive from a MIDI file stream where the MIDI note-on events trigger transient or continuous light effects to each output as programmed by the light show creator.

- This Macintosh App has additional capabilities beyond the iPhone/iPad App, to create, simulate, and publish light show music files for use by Mac, iPhone, and iPad.
- flickerSong light shows are light effects triggered from a standard MIDI file, Note/Channel commands operating in synchronism with the music, as composed by the musician on a Digital Audio Workshop or DAW.
- Each light effect is exactly as desired, a time sequence of LED brightness at 210 samples per second. The musician can select from predefined effect shapes, or easily create and import their own light effects as simply as editing a text file. In addition there are so-called cw effects such as on, off, toggle, and a convenience All-Notes-Off (all-lights-off) effect.
- To compose a light show on the Macintosh, the musician defines which effect is played in response to each MIDI Note and Channel combination. Thus 88 notes times 16 Channels -> 1408 unique effects are available for each LED string output. Using the musician’s favorite DAW, the MIDI light show is composed on one or more Software Instrument tracks, using the Mac’s MIDI bus / IAC to broadcast MIDI to the ScottEffx flickerSong Mac application.
- The musician can then compose, edit and bounce the light show track(s) with the music to an .mp3 file exactly like bouncing music alone, using the Mac App. The light show content is stored within the .mp3 ID3 meta-data tag. When played using this or the Mac App, the effects and configuration are loaded automatically from the music file.
- Simulate a light show (on the Mac App) using a photograph of the desired scene decorated with “lights” created using your own graphics application. Create the image layers for simulation using an image manipulation program / graphics application like GIMP (free) or Photoshop, then easily use the simulation while composing your light show.
- Play your light shows using the iPhone/iPad/Mac flickerSong Apps, exactly like any music player application. The App connects, sets up, and plays the music and light show thru all flickerSongs found on your local wifi router
- Loop through your playlist of music light shows for a continuous string of shows.
- Repeat a light show sequence indefinitely (no music) even after App disconnection

Utility Functions:
- Monitor flickerSong per-channel output power, internal temperature and voltage
- Conventional Dimmer function when not playing light shows, flickerSongs retain their dimmer settings even when disconnected from this App
Daily Timed events, for each flickerSong such as on/off, trigger start of a single play or repeated light show sequence (no sound).
